Why fabric math matters
Fabric is the one supply you can't un-cut. Buy too little and the dye lot may be gone when you go back for more; buy too much and quilting cotton at twelve dollars a yard adds up fast. The math itself — how many pieces fit across the bolt, how many cutting rows that means — is simple but tedious, and a small mistake compounds across a whole project. These calculators get the numbers right in seconds, using the same row-counting approach cutting tables use.
They also count the things quick estimates leave out: the half inch every seam eats when you piece a backing, the three inches a diagonal join swallows on binding, the whole pattern repeat you pay for on every curtain cut. Those are the details that turn "about four yards" into a second trip to the shop.
